5 Natural Remedies for Allergies

What is an allergy? This is the response of the immune system to various substances and the body reacts by swelling, sneezing, coughing and unpleasant gut reactions, the allergens may vary from food, pollen, plants and animals. There are pharmaceutical treatments for allergies called antihistamines, apart from using pharmaceutical stuff you may want to use natural remedies to relieve or cure your allergy.

  1. Consume stinging nettle tea.

Stinging nettle is an excellent anti-inflammatory herb. It can be consumed internally during an allergic reaction. This is because nettle has the ability to help ease the discomfort or irritation caused by a reaction. Nettle is the most commonly recommended remedy for allergies so you can mix a teaspoon of the powder with 1 glass of water and consume this 3 times daily.

  1. Diet changes.

Dr. Peter D’ Adamo, author of Eat Right for Your Blood Type gives details of how individuals from different blood groups should consume food that is compatible with their blood types. For example, one may have a reaction every time he/she consumes wheat and that person may probably be a type O individual. So it is important to know what suits your body and blood type. The same principle applies to people who are lactose intolerant, one should be able to recognize the signs of an allergic reaction every time he/she consumes dairy milk.

  1. Organic Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an excellent remedy for allergies because it boosts the body’s immune system by inhibiting the production of histamines which comes about when one is in contact with an allergen. Mix 2 teaspoons of raw apple cider vinegar (we recommend Dr. Bragg) with a glass of water and consume it twice a day to help relieve the allergy.

  1. Omega-3 fatty acids

Fish oil, nuts and other foods rich in Omega 3 are excellent remedies to allergies. This is because Omega 3 is a natural anti-inflammatory. If you are not allergic to sources of Omega 3 fatty acids such as nuts, you may go ahead and use it to help boost your immunity and keep allergies at bay.

  1. Probiotics

Probiotics help maintain and boost the function of the natural flora in the digestive tract. If you suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), yeast infections or you take medication that limit the functions of the good bacteria of the gut. You can take natural probiotic yoghurt, probiotic supplements and natural supplements like Dong Quai and Cat’s Claw. Probiotics are excellent in fighting allergies caused by an imbalance in the intestinal flora.
