Loewe Presents Its Fall/Winter 2021 Collection with “A Show in The News”

Jonathan Anderson continues to innovate the runway show format with ‘A Show in The News’ for Loewe’s fall/winter 2021 collection.

Since he couldn’t have a real runway show, Loewe creative direction Jonathan Anderson come up with the idea of producing a newspaper. “The Loewe Show Has Been Cancelled” headlines Loewe’s A Show in The News. After experimenting with a show in a box and a show on the wall, Jonathan Anderson collaborates with the M/M Paris team again to present the brand’s fall/winter 2021 womenswear collection in the format of a newspaper.

“Dear reader, the Loewe show has been cancelled, but our lives continue. We’re just living in a different context and we have to move on, whatever happens. The show is the news, and it’s in the news. Coming directly to you in your everyday life and ideally enjoyed with a morning cup of coffee. I hope you enjoy browsing these pages and that they bring you all the energy we put into creating them,” the British creative director says, as quoted in L’Officiel USA.

The collection focuses on draping with tops and dresses, and plays with sleeves that are graphic while soft. Pieces are geometric and fluid with a strong psychedelic influence to it in what Anderson calls, “colour therapy”, adding excitement from how drab the world may seem nowadays. Jewelled brooches are a part of almost every piece and abstract sleeves are the highlights of the collection, looking like modern sculptures a part of blanket-like draped oversized coats.

Along with the newspaper, the images, the paper cutters and the leather mat, the Show in The News format also contains an excerpt from the new book the Affair by writer Danielle Steel. For the new collection, Anderson picks up saturated and vibrant colours in colour-block combinations emphasized by bold volumes and silhouettes, a hallmark of his creative direction. Sculptural and three-dimensional looks are developed with soft materials. Psychedelic graphic prints, wool cut-out sweaters worn with leather bustiers and balloon pants and platform moccasins in calfskin all stand out.

Other highlights are the bags. The XL Flamenco clutch comes in bright hues while displaying leather in its rawest form. The Goya bag is a structured statement piece as a pop of bold colour. And the Amazon bag, first launched in 1975 and one of Loewe’s signature pieces, is a nappa calfskin and Anagram jacquard variations.
