Mosquito bites can be very annoying and even though most are harmless, the saliva from their bites creates sores and bumps that could last a while.

This tiny yet powerful things take only 6 seconds to bite you!

Coconut and Rosemary Oil (we tried this)

Coconut and Rosemary oils are a magical combination. Applying coconut oil on the affected area stops the itching sensation and protects the affected area from bacteria. Rosemary oil on the other hand, helps reduce the swelling completely. Mix both oils for fast relief. In our case it took two days for the bites to completely disappear.

Oatmeal Bath

Oatmeal contains emollients which are good for reducing itching and swelling. Make an oatmeal paste by mixing equal amounts of oatmeal and water in a bowl to create a paste-like substance. Scoop the paste and put it on a washcloth then hold it down on to the irritated skin for about 5 minutes then rinse the area affected by mosquito bites.

Cold Ice

Cold temperatures are great for reducing inflammation. This helps especially with the mosquito bite swelling and even with the itching. Just crush some ice and put in in a plastic bag then place it on the affected area for about 6 minutes.


Honey with its great anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties can be just what you need. Just a drop of it can help reduce itching and inflammation that result from mosquito bites.

Basil Rub

Basil contains chemical compounds like eugenol that could help relieve itchy skin. Simply soak some basil in a bowl of water leave it overnight. Thereafter, dip a washcloth into it and rub gently on the mosquito bites.

Preventative Measures:

  • You can apply a few drops of rosemary essential oil combined with coconut oil if you are in an area prone to bites. Rosemary is a insect repellent.
  • You can carry some natural mosquito repellent such as Flower Naturals made right here in Kenya.
